So you do have access to civilization if you need to and there is a phone on the porch for emergency calls. Diana also let us know that there is WIFI SERVICE in the reception center and outside on the porch and sections of the parking lot. I had no trouble getting around the very large property. The roads were plowed and sanded fairly well in which I was glad because I didn't bring my SUV. It was beautiful out on the pond and through the woods and the running brook. She's awesome! We found out that my wife and I were the only crazy people in the woods that week and that made us feel real comfortable (not) but after taking a walk on the frozen pond and taking a nice hike through the woods on Diana's suggestion we began to feel a lot more comfortable being the only guest there. We made our mile drive from our cabin to the reception center and was so glad to meet Diana who gave us a very warm welcome and introduction to Great Adventure Center. The next morning we were so happy to see daylight :-). The only lights were the lights in our cabin with no tv stations, no telephone, no cell service, no internet or Wifi. We didn't do that and soon after arriving it got pitch black outside which made us a bit uncomfortable the first night not being able to see anything outside. I would recommend that you get here earlier than we did so that you can acclimate to your surroundings before settling in for the night. We stopped in Bangor on our way down to pick up food and drinks. We stayed in cabin 5 which was well equipped with all the appliances and utensils that we needed. My wife and I spent a splendid, quiet week here the first week in January. We are also berating ourselves for not finding this super escape sooner.… We were very, very impressed with our stay and are already making reservations for additional visits this year. Bring a bar or two, or a small pump-type container. The only thing we didn't have but needed, was hand soap. We also had a full size fridge, gas stove/oven, microwave, toaster, crock pot, and coffee maker. The kitchen was complete with all dishes, pots, and pans we needed. Coin operated laundry machines are available at the Office. All linens were included, bit we would suggest bringing you own beach towels for swimming and some extra kitchen towels for cleaning up. Our cabin (Bigelo) came with a full kitchen, steel fire pit and gas grill as well as a private beach with free canoe. Boats, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards are available for rental. The property is located on a beautiful lake forth a sandy beach for swimming. All of the staff were super-nice, especially Intern Greg. We brought seven people all together and stayed in the Bigelo Cabin. We stayed at GPOAC for the first time last weekend. We plan to rent out a cabin or yurt next year for a longer period of time. We saw several others walking or sitting on the shoreline reading and sipping coffee too. My dad and I went for a quiet walk around the lake early the saturday morning we were there. We were in and out of the campground, mostly out and only came back after dark and headed to sleep. The water supply was just outside our door, as was a gas grill and a fire pit! Neighbors were close by but we didn't socialize at all. If needed, an air mattress could easily fit in their yurt! The yurt was equipped with a tv (although we weren't in there long enough to watch, no could we get it to work!), a drip coffee maker, a full sized fridge, enough dishes etc to be useful for an extended stay and electricity and heat for when then weather changes. My son and I had no complaints about the bunk beds either. The yurt was equipped with a sofa Futon that was very comfortable according to my dad. The campground is perfect, very secluded (please bring absolutely everything you need with you or you will not be happy with yourself if you need to drive to get something - or buy it from their teeny tiny camp store $$$$. We were lucky enough to be able to rent out the large yurt for two nights. I took my father and my son away for a two night stay in July.
